ABOUT NANCY ANGELO, PH.D

Nancy Angelo loves both the world of work and people who choose to care for others through their professions or occupations. Born in the USA, Nancy spent much of her childhood in Switzerland and Belgium where her father dedicated his efforts to helping European countries recover from World War II and to advance efforts toward world peace.
His experiences working with the Canadian Liberation forces in ending German occupation of the Netherlands created a fire within him that fueled him throughout the rest of his life.
Nancy inherited that passion from him as well as her deep appreciation of having grown up with children from countries around the world.

With a background as a visual artist and arts manager in Southern California, Nancy switched gears when AIDS took the lives of a number of her friends. She dedicated several years raising money to fund community-based AIDS healthcare and human services . Those experiences led her back to graduate school to get her Ph.D.  in organizational psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles in order to better help organizations work through obstacles they faced on the people side of their work. She also completed additional training in  organization design through the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business, Center for Effective Organizations, and conflict management through the Program on Negotiation (PON), a project of the Harvard Schools of Business and Law, MIT and Tufts University. She holds additional certifications in change management, mediation and process facilitation.
She trained as a mindfulness meditation teacher with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. She has practiced meditation since 2001.

For a number of years, she served as a generalist both as an external consultant and one working within both Shield of California and Kaiser Permanente Northern California. Her projects included integrating an acquired company, implementing new technologies, facilitating reorganizations, assessing organizational culture and developing culture change initiatives, coaching leaders, and intervening in conflict situations.
Finding that she preferred working from the outside, she left for private practice. In 2008 she and Linda Garnets, Ph.D. formed a partnership working mainly with hospitals and universities. That collaboration was rich in learning as well as practice. Since Linda’s retirement in 2021, Nancy has carried Angelo+Garnets forward.

With this transition, Nancy focused more specifically on helping people practice more fruitful ways of handling conflict and enriching their change hardiness, constructive & productive communication, and satisfying & productive work together. She also honed her focus on helping leaders deepen their skills in leading change by engaging stakeholders and teams in key work. All of this work contributes to culture change.
